The countdown is on for this year’s Brightlingsea WinterFest – now entering its second decade.

The annual festival of music, arts, spoken word and wellbeing activities was first held in 2015 and has gone from strength to strength. Its theme for 2026 is The Next Wave, to mark the fact that each year WinterFest gathers momentum and brings something fresh and exciting.

With around 40 events of all kinds, Brightlingsea WinterFest is now a major attraction, lifting spirits in the town throughout the month of February and fostering great community spirit.

It also helps local people and organisations throughout the year, by giving grants from WinterFest’s Wellbeing Fund. Families, individuals and local organisations in Brightlingsea can all apply to the fund for items and activities that support their mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Alix Sheppard, co-founder of Brightlingsea WinterFest said: “WinterFest’s dedicated volunteers are delighted that the festival continues to be so well supported and successful. The 2026 programme is packed with events and attractions for all ages and WinterFest is also continuing its link with the Brightlingsea Literary Festival, adding an extra dimension to the creative events on offer.

“Brightlingsea WinterFest really does have something for everyone and a huge effort is made to ensure that the festival is inclusive and welcoming to all. The extensive range of events and activities will continue to inspire many people to try something new and broaden their horizons, whilst also lifting spirits and tackling isolation.”

As well as supporting local people, Brightlingsea WinterFest also makes a substantial donation each year to the mental health charity, Mid and North East Essex Mind.

• Running alongside this year’s WinterFest is the Winter Fresh Air Festival, a spin-off from the popular summer event. On Saturday, February 28, from 5pm to 9pm, Victoria Place will be the base for a programme of illuminated street theatre, giant puppetry, and live music.
