A Brightlingsea resident has thanked the town’s Bramble Brigade for clearing a path that was “impossible” to walk through with her stroller.
Babs Brittain said the path linking the Hopkins Homes estate off Robinson Road with Whitegate Road and Chapel Road was “plagued” by 5ft-high stinging nettles, cow parsley and more. Our main picture shows Babs fighting through the path, with the picture below showing what it looks like after clearance.
“It was so impossible that I was forced to travel by car as I cannot walk anywhere without a stroller,” said Babs. “The footpath was also impossible for pushchairs and mobility scooters.”
But thanks to the efforts of Bramble Brigade volunteers Katie Callaghan and Mark Wallington, the path has been cleared – “very much appreciated” by Babs.
Volunteer Mat Court explained: “The Bramble Brigade is just a group of local residents who wanted to do something to help. We are not an official organisation but we are now working with Essex County Council and Brightlingsea Town Council to hopefully become a properly recognised and equipped volunteer group. That would allow us to do more local projects in a safe and organised way.”
He added: “It just shows what can happen when people care about their town and decide to get involved. If anyone wants to help or find out more, they are very welcome to contact me. We would also like to thank Tendring District Council for taking the results of last weekend’s work away, and we hope to formalise this as a potential solution to getting rid of the stuff in the future.”
