Brightlingsea looks forward to a fun-packed Bank Holiday weekend

Brightlingsea Food and Drink Festival

Brightlingsea’s Bank Holiday weekend looks set to be a busy one with events for all the family.

Saturday and Sunday sees the return of the Brightlingsea Food and Drink Festival, this year boasting over 75 stalls selling food, drink, art, crafts and clothing. The main tent will feature 18 bands over the two days, where the main bar will be selling a wide variety of beers ciders and more.

On Friday the Festival  will open for the Appetiser. Bars will be open, bands will be playing, and there’ll be a circus skills workshop and magic shows.

The Appetiser opens at 6.30pm and entry is free. On Saturday, the Festival runs from 11am to 7pm, and on Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Admission is £4, children free. Find the Festival on Promenade Way.

On Monday the annual Brightlingsea Town Show and Companion Dog Show will be held at the Community Centre. on Lower Park Road. The hot weather over the summer hasn’t made it easy for gardeners this year, but the organisers are hoping for plenty of entries in a wide range of floral categories.

Outdoor stalls and activities open at 10.30am, followed by the opening ceremony and the opening of the indoor exhibits at noon. Judging for the dog show starts at 12.30pm, with 14 classes covering agility,breed, junior handling and more. Trophy presentations take place at 3.30pm.

Also on Monday, there’s the family-friendly Lozenge Nature Trail, next to the Community Centre. Organised by the British Naturalists’ Association Essex Branch, the aim is to help youngsters become “nature detectives” and be able to identify wild plants, birds and animals. in Brightlingsea’s Lozenge Nature Area.
