Banksea’s Motley Crew post box topper wows the town

The Motley Crew and the RNLI - immortalised in wool

A post box topper made Brightlingsea knitter ‘Banksea’ has gained thousands of ‘likes’ on social media.

The topper – featuring Brightlingsea shanty group the Motley Crew and an RNLI lifeboat – adorns the postbox in Victoria Place. It marks the Motley Crew’s 25th anniversary and 200 years of the RNLI, for which the singers have raised around £40,000.

A picture of the topper shared from the Motley’s Facebook page has gained around 3,500 likes – and many appreciative comments – from users across the country after it featured on a national page dedicated to post box toppers.

It’s the latest in a series of clever tableaux made by the anonymous knitter. Previous toppers have featured Eurovision star Sam Ryder, Brightlingsea WinterFest and the town’s famous cat, Max.
