Brightlingsea’s Tower Street car park is one of 11 acros the district to have gained a national safety award.
The Tendring District Council-operated car parks now have Park Marks, after their high standards were recognised by the British Parking Association (BPA).
The awards, part of the Safer Parking Scheme, are given to facilities that demonstrate excellent management, effective surveillance, appropriate lighting, and a clean, safe environment for users.
Councillor Mick Barry, TDC’s cabinet member for car parks, said: “These awards are more than just plaques on the wall — they’re a sign to residents and visitors that our car parks are safe, clean, and well-managed.”
Other car parks awarded were: Kiln Lane, Manningtree; Ardleigh car p;ark Jaywick Beach; Ipswich Road, Holland-on-Sea; The Quay, Harwich; Wellington Road, Harwich; Agate Road, Clacton; Elm Grove, Clacton; High Street, Walton-on-the-Naze; Church Road, Walton-on-the-Naze.
Nine of these sites have already passed both Safer Parking and Park Access inspections, with the two new additions expected to follow shortly. The Park Access Award specifically recognises car parks that provide safe and accessible parking for disabled users.
