Tendring residents are being urged to make sure they don’t lose their right to vote in future local and national elections.
Letters are being sent to every household in the district as part of the annual voter information check. The canvass helps Tendring’s Electoral Registration Officer keep its records accurate for all UK, Commonwealth and EU nationals, as well as 16 and 17-year-olds living in the district.
The letters ask households to confirm – by text, phone, online or post – that there have been no changes or to update the details of those living at their home. Residents are encouraged to reply promptly, particularly if they have recently moved or have teenagers who have just turned 16 or 17, to avoid further reminders.
Ian Davidson, Electoral Registration Officer for Tendring, said: “Checking your household’s details is quick and important. It helps protect your right to vote and ensures our records are up to date.”
He added: “We know that household details for 16 to 20-year-olds and for those over 70 years old are not as complete as for age groups in between.”
With online or text options residents will receive an immediate confirmation of their response. Postal responses require residents to provide their own envelope and stamp.
