Speeding jetskier in Brightlingsea creek reported by off-duty police officer

An Essex Police vehicle on Point Clear

An off-duty marine police officer reported a jetskier who was speeding in Brightlingsea Creek to colleagues – who subsequently found that the man’s van was uninsured.

The jetski was seen to be speeding in the creek near Point Clear on Saturday, June 21 where a four-knot speed limit is in force. On one of the hottest days of the year so far, the area was busy with swimmers, paddleboarders, and boats.

Concerned for public safety, the officer contacted local officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Clacton, who attended and stopped a black Ford Transit towing the jet ski. Checks revealed the vehicle had no insurance and a the driver, a 35-year-old from Epping, was reported. He was also issued with a warning about his conduct on the water.
