Weight loss injections will be available for obesity treatment in Essex and Suffolk – but can’t be prescribed by local doctors,.
The Mounjaro injections will be managed through specialised clinics and Brightlingsea’s Colne Medical Practice has urged patients not to ask for the treatment as doctors there are unable to help.
Priority patients for the service are those who belong in ‘Cohort 1’ of the NHS England Interim Commissioning Guidance. These are the patients NHS England considers as having the greatest clinical need and only patients from this group will be prioritised in the first year. The new scheme is being run by the Weight Management and Complex Obesity Service.
