
Around 120 young sailors from all over the UK will be racing off Brightlingsea over the weekend of June 14 & 15 in the Optmist class Early Summer Championships.
Hosted by Brightlingsea Sailing Club, the event will be contested by sailors aged up to 15 years old, with races taking place in the Colne Estuary.
The single-handed Optimist dinghy is one of several classes recognised by British Youth Sailing for its junior pathway for sailors. Many top sailors started out in the diminuitive dinghy, including British sailor Ben Ainslie, the most successful Olympic sailor ever.
Besides its annual Pyefleet Week, between August 9-18, the club is also hosting the National 12 and National 18 class championships between August 22 to 26.
