New mayor elected for Brightlingsea

New team at the top - Brightlingsea's deputy mayor, Kate Mitchell, and mayor Ric Morgan

Brightlingsea’s new mayor for 2026-7 is Ric Morgan.

He was elected at Brightlingsea Town Council’s Annual Council Meeting on Thursday, May 21. His deputy will be Kate Mitchell and both were wished a successful year by outgoing mayor, Chris Paveley.

It’s the second time around for Cllr Morgan, whose first stint as mayor in the 1990’s covered some of the time the town was the centre of protests against live animal exports. For his new term in office, he says he is “eager to take part in the town’s many events and to support the fantastic organisations that make Brightlingsea so special”.

Cllr Mitchell said: “I’m very proud to hold the position of deputy mayor of Brightlingsea and am very much looking forward to working with the mayor and other members of BTC  to continue to make Brightlingsea such a wonderful place to live.”
