A new licensee is being sought for a Brightlingsea pub that closed suddenly and is currently boarded up

Removal vans were seen outside the Cherry Tree in Church Road  over the Easter weekend and grilles were put up over all the windows and doors in the following week. Several cars – believed to be owned by the licensees who took over the running of the pub in October 2024 – remain in the car park.

The pub’s owner, Admiral Taverns, is currently advertising the business on its website, seeking “an energetic and dynamic licensee who will enjoy engaging with the vibrant local community and really putting the Cherry Tree at the forefront of Brightlingsea”.

Admiral, which runs over 1,600 pubs nationally, says the Cherry Tree is as “an ideal starter pub” with zero business rates, two bars with space for up to 25 covers and two-bedroomed accommodation. The annual rent is stated at £16,500.
