Panto horse racing, grannies on souped-up shopping trolleys, juggling and general silliness – it can only mean the Fresh Air Festival is back in Brightlingsea this Saturday, September 6.
Providing “seriously silly fun for everyone”, the third festival of outdoor arts will be taking over Promenade Green next to the Lido with a host of free events between 11am and 5pm.
Besides top performance artists, there’ll be the chance to learn circus skills, add to a giant mural, make slime, take part in a panto horse making workshop – and compete in the Great Wonky Donkey Pantomime Horse Race at the end of the day.
Among the acts are:
The Fairly Famous tennis show – a hilarious one-set match full of drama and bent rules
Daughters of the Dust – female struggles played out on tight wires
Out of the Box – innovative and captivating circus skills
Arcade Mini – dance games to encourage participation
The Wheelie Bins – street furniture with feelings
Granny Turismo – the shopping trolley dance display team
Wellbeing Wells – a wishing well with a difference
Circo Rum Baa Baa – ancient Olympiads on stilts
Shirt or Squirt – power a water pump or risk a squirt
Local artists will be showcasing their work, and there’ll be community stalls including those from Brightlingsea Allotments, Brightlingsea Music Group, Brightlingsea Panto Group and Hedgehog Highway Rescue. There’ll also be ice cream, tea and coffee, a bake sale and a range of food stalls.
