Drivers wanted to keep Autumn Centre rolling

Could you drive the Autumn Centre mini bus?

Brightlingsea charity the Autumn Centre is looking for more mini bus drivers to help support its work with the elderly and frail who may be vulnerable and lonely.

Currently there are only five volunteer drivers for the organisation’s two buses – which means that they are much in demand for taking people to and from lunch clubs, bingo sessions and more.

Drivers need to have the D1 category on their licence to qualify, but no special driving skills are required. Most of the trips are around Brightlingsea and surrounding villages, and training will be given on how to use the wheelchair lifts.

“For those getting a bit less steady on their feet, or in wheelchairs, we collect people from home and return them after the event,” said driver Chris Bailey. “One of our passengers is 104 years old and it’s a lifeline for people who are on their own.”

If you think you might be able to help, call in at the Autumn Cenre in Victoria Place or call 01206 303702.
