To celebrate its tenth birthday – and boost dwindling supplies – Brightlingsea Foodbank is hosting an extra special raffle at Brightlingsea Regatta on July 26.

Instead of buying a ticket with coins of the realm, participants are being asked to pay with an in-date tin or packet of food which can go towards the Foodbank’s stocks.

One item of food will buy a strip of five raffle tickets and – if you’re feeling generous – in exchange for five strips of raffle tickets, a pre-prepared £5 pack of food products will be added to the Foodbank’s larder.

Brightlingsea Foodbank coordinator, Win Pomroy said: “Our food donations have decreased markedly over the last two years – but since Brightlingsea Foodbank opened ten years ago, the demand for food parcels has more than quadrupled.”

She added: By asking people to pay with food instead of money, we hope to highlight our clients’ continued need for food – and boost our dwindling supplies at the same time.”
