Active Essex is looking to recognise Activity Heroes – individuals, clubs or organisations that have gone the extra mile to keep the county’s residents healthy and active this year.
The Essex Activity Hero Awards replace the traditional sports awards hosted annually by Essex Activity and Tendring District Council because of Covid-19 restrictions. The aim is to shine a light on those that have inspired, benefitted and supported residents throughout 2020.
Online nominations at www.activeessex.org close on October 30 and in November people will be urged to share their Activity Hero stories across social media, with special VIP guests will shine a light on specific Activity Heroes.
Cllr Ray Gooding, cabinet member for education at Essex County Council, said: “I’ve been really impressed at how there has been a sense of community spirit throughout this challenging year. Active Essex wants to build upon this and celebrate that community drive that has led to many people getting active in different ways than usual. No matter their age or ability and whether they have attended a Zumba class in their living room, created an obstacle course in their garden, or found a new sport that they love, it’s about time we celebrate it all.”
