Your doorbell camera could help to solve crime

Have a doorbell camera? It could help the police

Do you have a doorbell camera? Kent and Essex police are looking to add it to a registry to help solve crimes.

The two organisations run a secure CCTV registry for householders’ security and doorbell cameras, which can then be used to provide video evidence following an incident.

Registering doesn’t mean that the police have access to live feeds from the cameras as the register only retains information about their location. If there’s an incident near a camera location, householders will be sent a link via email or text asking for any footage to be uploaded to the police system.

The police say that by adding cameras to the registry, householders will be helping to increase the efficiency of video evidence collection and make their communities safer. Camera registration takes less than one minute via a secure online portal.
