Winter wonderland promised for Late Night Shopping event

Street performers at last year's Late Night Shopping event

The team behind Brightlingsea’s Late Night Shopping event are planning to turn the town centre into a Narnia-themed winter wonderland – with new lights, more stalls, a host of street performers.

Friday, December 5 will see the town centre transformed with new lights and displays, while a bag pipe band, dance troupes, singers, jugglers, choirs, story tellers and costumed street performers will be on hand to keep visitors entertained. Victoria Place and the High Street will be closed to traffic.

Shops are staying open until 8pm and will have maps showing the location of the various attactions and special stamps for children to collect – with the possibility of a Christmas surprise if they gather them all.

From 3pm there’ll be around 40 stalls in the town centre selling all sorts of Christmas goodies, and the YMCA will once again be hosting a gift and craft fair. Santa will be on hand – thanks to the town’s Rotary club – to greet children and collect letters.

The evening will close with what’s billed as a “magical illuminated parade which will start in Promenade Way and process up Station Road and around the War Memorial.  Everyone is welcome to follow the parade with their own lights.
