Concerns over plans to expand sand and gravel extraction in Thorrington will be aired at a public meeting next month.
The meeting, organised by Brightlingsea Town Council, will discuss proposals to extract up to 4.7m tonnes of aggregates from the 105-hectare Thorrington Hall site.
The site, which is bordered by the main B10129 and B10127 roads, The site is one of several in the district under consideration for mineral extraction in Essex County Council’s Minerals Local Plan.
The plan is being reviewed to meet forecast demand for building materials up to 2040. A public consultation is open until Tuesday March 19, 2024 and can be found at www.essex.gov.uk/minerals-review.
Brightlingsea’s county councillor, Alan Goggin, will be available to answer questions at the public meeting, which takes place in the Community Centre on Monday, March 4 at 7.30pm.
