Over the limit – Brightlingsea drivers set unenviable speed records

Speed watch volunteers monitoring drivers on Church Road, Brightlingsea

Staff Reporter

A car was clocked doing 52mph in a 30mph zone in Brightlingsea by the town’s Community Speed Watch volunteers – a record high speed.

And in just 15 minutes, the team noted 10 vehicles breaking the speed – its busiest ever quarter of an hour. All the drivers will receive an educational letter from Essex Police advising them of the dangers of speeding and why they should think about not doing it.

The team is always on the lookout for new volunteers, who will be given a short training session before starting speed watching. Email [email protected] if you’re interested.
