Mud on the B1029 has been creating dangerous conditions for drivers heading in and out of Brightlingsea after the holiday break.
The mud – deposited by trucks leaving the SRC Group facility on Moverons Lane – is reported to have caused one motorcyclist to have fallen, while car drivers have reported slipping and skidding under braking on the hill where the deposits are heaviest. Dirt is evident to Thorringon Cross and beyond.
Brightlingsea Town Council (BTC) says it has been contacting SRC by phone and email daily about the issue, which was also causing problems over the winter of 2023/24.
In a statement, the council said: “Following our correspondence this morning [Wednesday, January 8], the road sweeper is being sent out with immediate effect to deal with the reported clumps of mud. Also the number of lorries using the site has been reduced.”
The statement added: “The council has also contacted the planning enforcement officer at Essex County Council, as the site operates under a planning permission issued by Essex County Council as Mineral and Waste Planning Authority.”
After the problems last year, BTC urged affected residents to contact Essex County Council’s Planning Enforcement Team at [email protected].
Brightlingsea Info has asked SRC for comment.
