Speeding jetskiers in Brightlingsea harbour were dealt with by Essex Police marine officers on Sunday, May 12.

The officers were on patrol with Tendring District Commander Chief Inspector Ella Latham, demonstrating their work under Operation Wave-Breaker, which sees the Marine Unit mount regular patrols in anti-social behaviour hotspots throughout the spring and summer.

Among the issues the team dealt with were reports of three personal watercraft riders exceeding the speed limits out of Brightlingsea harbour. The unit also went to the assistance of a motorboat which was suffering from steering problems and drifting into the middle of the harbour.

Sergeant Alex Southgate said: “We were able to show the benefits of engaging and talking to people out on the water to ensure they enjoy themselves but stay safe at the same time. Ensuring they are aware of local speed limits and restricted areas is one way we do this, but we’re always happy to talk to people about any issues they have and answer any questions.”
