Brightlingsea’s Late Night Shopping event – on Friday, December 6 – will be bigger than ever this year.
Donations and a crowdfunding campaign by the organisers have ensured that there will be something for everyone to enjoy in the town centre between 3-8pm.
Santa Claus and his sleigh will be parked outside Spirals from 6pm, while Mrs Claus will be telling stories in The Courtyard Rooms from 4pm. The Brewer’s Arms forecourt will play host to DJ Looney from 3pm, the Junior School Choir at 4.45pm, the Colne School at 5.10pm, Women in Harmony at 5.45, and singer Jade from 6.30pm.
Morris dancers will be in the High Street at 3.45pm, with Brightstars performing by the Victoria Place fountain at 4.15, and the Essex Caledonian Drummers and Pipers playing in Victoria Place at 6.15. Shanty singers the Motley Crew will be singing wassails in the the Swan from 6.15pm.
There’ll be a children’s fun fair in Victoria Place alongside a Winter Wonderland, a living nativity in St James’ Church, a craft fair in the YMCA from 4pm, a street market in the High Street, stalls run by local charities and organisations and many shops will be staying open, hosting singers and offering mulled wine. The evening will close with an illuminated procession – including ballet dancers – around the war memorial.
Victoria Place and the High Street from the New Street/Richard Avenue junction will be closed to traffic from noon until 8.30pm, and there’ll be a temporary bus stop ourside the Victoria Café.
