Stronvar Rest Home in Brightlingsea has been rated as ‘good’ in all areas following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The Church Road care home, which provides personal and nursing care for up to 16 older people, some with dementia, was said by inspectors who visited in March 2026 to be “performing well and meeting our expectations”, with a well-established and knowledgeable care team.
The inspectors considered how the home is performing in five areas: Safe, Caring, Responsive. Effective and Well Led. In its last full inspection in 2019, the effectiveness of its service was said to require improvement, but all other areas were rated ‘good’.
In the latest inspection, the home demonstrated improvements in assessing people’s mental capacity. Although inspectors said some improvements were needed to the layout and some fixtures and fittings to ensure that people living with dementia could be well-supported, the environment was found to be “homely, warm and welcoming”.
Staff understood how to keep people safe, said inspectors, and were observed to be caring and compassionate. Health professionals were complimentary about care staff responsiveness to residents’ changing health needs.
Residents were positive about the quality of their care, saying they felt safe, involved in planning their care, and treated as individuals. Personal care was done sensitively, preserving privacy and dignity, and relatives described “caring staff who treated their loved ones with respect”.
Inspectors said people who had additional dietary needs were supported by two chefs who knew their needs well. They also made special celebratory meals on people’s birthdays and anniversaries.
