County’s road repair programme benefits from local knowledge

Essex County Council says thousands of extra repairs to highways across the county have been carried out following the launch of a new initiative.

Under the Members’ Highways Initiative, county councillors identify road and pavement issues in their areas – including pothole and pavement repairs, kerbs installations, sign replacements and refreshing white carriageway lines.

Brightlingsea was one of the first towns in the county to trial the scheme, which sees an Essex Highways crew carry out works around every eight weeks. To date, the council says 9,406 repairs, in addition to routine works by Essex Highways, have been completed since April.

Brightlingsea residents can find contact details for Alan Goggin, the town’s county representative, at www.essex.gov.uk/about-council/your-councillor.
