The Colne Yacht Club has been nominated as a finalist in the Royal Yachting Association’s Club of the Year competition.
The Brightlingsea club is one of four listed in the Active Club of the Year category, which aims to celebrate organisations that have developed strong participation opportunities and training to enable their members to be as active as possible at any age.
Over recent years the club has developed its training offer, with its Women on the Water group, cadet section and power boat tuition.
The club has its own Sonata keelboat training scheme, which has attracted many new members who can then go on to race in what’s thought to be the largest Sonata fleet in the country, or start crewing in the club’s thriving cruiser fleet.
The volunteer-run club is also work with local organisations to provide bursaries for people who want to take up the sport, but find finance is a barrier to entry.
The winner will be announced on February 24.
