More than a dozen stroke survivors in Brightlingsea have taken advantage of a new weekly stroke clinic that’s now running in the town.

Run by the Tendring Specialist Stroke Services charity, the clinic is one of only three in the district and has been funded by charity events held by last year’s Deputy and Lady Deputy of the Cinque Port Liberty, Mark and Debbie Wilby.

The events, together with donations, raised £12,000 and this week some of the money was handed over to Brightlingsea Regent Football Club, which is hosting the clinics.

“The clinics have been very successful so far,” said Mr Wilby, who said that his successor – current Deputy Rob White – will also be using his year in office to fundraise for the clinics.

Those attending the clinics can receive rehabilitation therapy, helped by exercise equipment sourced from a Colchester centre that’s closing down, gain advice from a specialist nurse or just chat with other survivors over a cup of tea or coffee.

The clinic is free to attend and runs from 2-4pm every Monday except bank holidays. or more information, see the TSSS website.
