Brightlingsea Carnival organisers look for more participation

A scene from a previous carnival procession

The team behind Brightlingsea carnival is busy planning for this year’s event – but are making a plea for more people to take part.

The carnival will take place on July 22 in conjunction with the town’s regatta. Though the Carnival Association says that it already has a number of floats entered by local businesses, along with carnival courts, unicyclists, dancers and a pipe band, there is still room for more.

“Take up has been an issue,” says the association, “and we feel we have to stress that there is a ‘use it or lose it’ feeling.”

The procession will set off at noon from Promenade Way, making its way to the Shipyard Estate via Lower Park Road, Ladysmith Avenue, Station Road and Colne Road.

The association is also planning a garage sale trail over the weekend of September 16 & 17 to raise funds for next year’s event. Tickets will be on sale soon from Spirals in Victoria Place.

Anyone who would like to take part in the carnival should contact Chris Kitchen on 07870 181368 or Tracey House Barton on 07813 721614.
