A generous donation of £720 from the Colne Delta Blues and Americana Club has given a welcome boost to Brightlingsea WinterFest’s funds.
The club’s support means that WinterFest now has almost £9,600 available to help local people through its Wellbeing Fund.
The presentation of the donation took place at the Colne Delta Blues and Americana Club’s latest concert at St James’ Church in Brightlingsea.
Dave Griffiths, co-founder of Brightlingsea WinterFest said: “We are really grateful to the Colne Delta Blues team for their generous donation. This means that a grand total of £6,578 has been raised by year’s WinterFest, thanks to everyone who who attended and supported our events, gave donations and bought raffle tickets.”
He added: “We have carried forward funds from last year’s WinterFest, so we now have £9,595 available for Wellbeing Fund requests. We will also be able to make a donation of £1,316 to the mental health charity, Mid and North East Essex MIND.”
Gary Gilders from the Colne Delta Blues and Americana Club said: “We are really proud to donate as part of the WinterFest February events. It’s such a great festival for the town and community and we’re happy to be a small part of it.”
WinterFest runs throughout each February in venues across the town, aiming to banish winter blues and boost community spirit with a whole host of music, arts, spoken word and wellbeing events. Its Wellbeing Fund is available to individuals, families and organisations in Brightlingsea to help local people’s mental, physical and social wellbeing
Brightlingsea WinterFest was founded by Alix Sheppard and Dave Griffiths and is run entirely by a team of volunteers. The theme for this year’s festival was ‘The Next Wave’, marking the fact that WinterFest, which started in 2015, has now entered its second decade.
The Colne Delta Blues and Americana Club holds regular concerts in Brightlingsea, featuring top musicians from home and abroad. The club, created by Gary Gilders and Gary Hill, promotes high quality live music and also raises much-need funds for Brightlingsea’s Free Music Festival, which takes place in August.
