Back to the 1950s at Brightlingsea Museum

Looking in at Brightlingsea Museum - High Sheriff of Essex, Julie Fosh

Brightlingsea Museum opens for the 2026 season with a new temporary exhibition, “Brightlingsea in the 1950s”.

On Saturday, March 28, the Station Road museum welcomed the High Sheriff of Essex, Julie Fosh, to a Friends’ of the Museum preview morning to see the new displays, which are sure to jog the memories of those who lived in the town during the decade, or inform those who are too young to remember.

The visit was almost Mrs Fosh’s final engagement of her year in office, and she pronounced herself very impressed with the exhibition, which opens on Wednesday, April 1 and will be open every day during the Easter holidays.

On Saturday, Easter Monday and Tuesday 7th, opening hours are from 10.30am to 4.30pm, and from Wednesday to Friday and on Sundays, 1.30 to 4.30pm. For further details, see the museum’s website brightlingseamuseum.co.uk for further details.
