Alresford bridge to be closed over two weekends

Alresford bridge – on the main B1027 road between Colchester and Clacton – is to close over two weekends for what’s been described as “essential maintenance work”.

The bridge will be closed from 7am on Saturday, November 16 to 9pm on Sunday November 17, with a similar closure planned over the weekend of November 23-24. During those times, the road will be closed between the junction of Coach Road and Wivenhoe Road, and the closed-off section can be bypassed by using Wivenhoe Road and Coach Road through Alresford (see map below).

According to Essex Highways, the closure will “allow essential maintenance to be carried out safely to the bridge’s soffits, as well as trial hole investigations to the top side of the structure”.

Dates may be subject to change if the works are affected by poor weather or if unforeseen issues arise and the latest information will be displayed on site signage. Details can be seen here.
