Alan Goggin retains seat on Essex County Council

Alan Goggin makes his victory speech after taking the Brightlingsea Division seat

Alan Goggin has been re-elected to represent the Brightlingsea Division on Essex County Council.

Mr Goggin, who was standing for the Conservatives, retained the seat with a comfortable majority, gaining just 64 votes less than in the 2017 county election. Brightlingsea town and district councillor, Mick Barry (Independent), standing in his first county election, took second place, beating Liberal Democrat Gary Scott and Labour’s Margaret Saunders.

The results were announced late on Friday morning (May 7) as the usual overnight count was suspended due to Covid-19 precautions.  The count for the Tendring area took place in Clacton Leisure Centre.
