20’s plenty, town council tells Brightlingsea drivers

A campaign to persuade drivers in Brightlingsea to slow down and reduce accidents has been launched by Brightlingsea Town Council.

The council is asking residents to support the 20’s Plenty for Us campaign, which is working for a default speed limit of 20mph on urban and village streets. Residents can show their support with 20’s Plenty stickers, which are available from the council office in Victoria Place.

The council says that the 20’s Plenty initiative been shown to reduce road traffic accidents by up to a third and cut pollution levels as vehicles slow from 30 to 20 miles an hour.

In a statement, the council said: “Brightlingsea Town Council believes that the health and safety of our residents is paramount.  This initiative is being adopted as a strategy to reduce the speed of vehicles in the town in order to ensure this.”

Comments for or against can be emailed to the town clerk or phoned to 01206 303535.
