Brightlingsea Open Gardens planning to be back this year

Brightlingsea Open Gardens weekend – which has raised thousands of pounds for the St Helena Hospice in the past – should be back this year over the weeknd of June 26 and 27.

The popular event – which sees dozens of local residents open up their gardens to the public – was cancelled last year due to lockdown restrictions. However, organisers The Brightlingsea Hospice Support Group are hoping that as restrictions are lifted this year the 29th event will be able to go ahead, even if changes have to be made to comply with whatever rules are in place at the time.

In 2020 the Brightlingsea Info hosted a 'Virtual Open Gardens' and we'll be running a similar event this year so that those who are unable to visit in person can enjoy the gardens too."We can't wait to give you the opportunity to see lots of beautiful and interesting gardens of all shapes and sizes. We're sure you've all been busy during lockdown so we’re hoping for a bumper entry!" say the organisers.

Previous 'openers' should be contacted shortly, and if you're interested in showing your garden, contact Mary Goggin on 01206 308023.

• Brightlingsea's Blessing of the Waters event – which was due to take place on May 30 – has been cancelled because the crowds the event generates would breach Covid regulations. Brightlingsea vicar, the Rev'd Caroline Beckett, who organised a filmed version of the event last year, is planning something similar for 2021, and is hoping to involve local schools and encourage householders to dress their houses in a suitably nautical fashion.
