Specialist repair crews are to tackle potholes and road surface damage caused by winter conditions across Essex.
Essex Highways’ new winter crews are funded by the Members’ Highways Initiative (MHI), launched last year by Essex County Council (ECC) in addition to normal highways maintenance.
The MHI lets county councillors identify highways issues in their local areas for priority repairs. The teams will also proactively address road defects if no specific repairs are identified by councillors.
More than 9,000 repairs, in addition to regular highways maintenance, were carried out across Essex between April and November 2024 thanks to the MHI.
