Brightlingsea Primary School’s choir came second in the annual Forum Rotary schools choir competition on Tuesday.
Led by teacher Emily Smith, the choir – which has previously won the competition for three consecutive years– had to perform two songs at the competition final, held at Colchester County High School for Girls in front of a large audience.
The other choirs taking part were Lexden Primary School, St John’s CoE Primary School and the eventual winner, St Mary’s Lower School, all from Colchester.
The chairman of sponsor the Arts Society Colchester, said: “All the schools deserved their place in the final as they were so brilliant and their amazing performances gave the audience much to be proud about – as witnessed by the immense cheering.”
And Colchester MP Pam Cox , who was in the audience, said: “he singing was very rousing and the children had such a brilliant experience which is likely to remain with them. There are no losers in this competition and they take away the knowledge that they did extraordinarily well with only very few marks separating all the schools.”
