The pod housing the Co-op Travel branch in the former Fiveways car park currently has no planning permission.
The Brightlingsea Travel branch moved in to the eco-friendly pod in Samsons Road following the closure of the Co-op’s Fiveways store. The supermarket is currently being refurbished ready for its re-opening as a Sainsburys store.
The East of England Co-op has now applied to Tendring District Council for retrospective planning permission, submitting the documents on February 14 – nearly two months after the branch opened.
A spokesperson for the East of England Co-op, said: “The retrospective planning application for our Brightlingsea Travel pod forms part of our transfer and lease of the wider site to new supermarket operator Sainsbury’s and complements their current planning application for the car park.”
