Brightlingsea’s first ever Literary Festival got off to a great start when two local authors launched their latest books at an event in the Royal British Legion on Sunday, February 5.
Authors Ruth Loten and Stephen Foster-Pilkington gave an insight into their work and launched their new books with readings, interviews and question and answer sessions.
Ruth’s novel, Folly, is set in a fictionalised version of Brightlingsea and covers two pivotal eras in the town’s history. Stephen’s book, Twelve Mistakes, is a sparkling collection of a dozen short stories.
The festival, organised by Brightlingsea’s BrightWords Writing Group, is being held in association with Brightlingsea WinterFest, the town’s annual festival of music, arts and spoken word, which runs throughout February.
Brightlingsea’s Mayor Mick Barry, who officially opened the Literary Festival at Brightlingsea British Legion said: “This event shows just how creative this town is. Brightlingsea is the gift that keeps on giving, as there is so much happening here, including WinterFest.”
The Literary Festival and WinterFest both have more attractions for all age groups coming up in February and most of the events are free. For more details visit www.brightlingseawinterfest.co.uk
