Dissatisfaction with the operation of Brightlingsea Harbour has led users to form a new action group.
The Brightlingsea Harbour Interest Group was formed after around 45 leisure and professional users met in Brightlingsea Sailing Club on November 8.
Over a two-hour meeting, those attending discussed issues of concern including speeding jetkis, inappropriate behaviour endangering children and swimmers, water quality, customer service, problems when moored boats are moved by harbour staff and a general lack of communication – including public notification of ship movements.
Overall, there was a general feeling that the harbour was not being run for its stakeholders – and that issues raised at official harbour stakeholder meetings were not being dealt with.
The fledgling group agreed a list of issues to raise with the harbour master and harbour commissioners at the next stakeholders’ meeting at 6.30pm on November 22 at the Royal British Legion in Sydney Street.
