Single adult bus fares in and out of Brightlingsea and across other parts of Essex will be capped at £2 from the beginning of 2023 when a government scheme comes into force.
The Bus Fare Cap will run until March 31 under a national scheme backed by £60m of government money. The aim is to help people with cost of living pressures and reduce the numbers of cars on the road.
Ten bus companies operating in Essex are taking part, including First Essex, which serves Brightlingsea.
The temporary cap on adult fares does not change the concessionary fare scheme or impact free travel. Colchester and Chelmsford Park and Ride services are not included as singles already cost less than £2.
More information is available on the Bus Fare Cap website or on bus company websites. Among the firms taking part in the Colchester and Tendring areas are:
• First Essex Buses in Essex including Chelmsford, Basildon, Colchester, Hadleigh.
• Ipswich Buses Limited for services terminating in Colchester.
• Chambers, Hedingham Omnibus and Konectbus, including services covering Colchester, Tendring, Maldon, Braintree and Halstead.
• Stephensons of Essex, serving Braintree, Uttlesford, Rochford, Castlepoint, Colchester, Tendring and Maldon.
