Martin Stutchfield, Chair of Essex Churches and an expert in the history of church brasses will be at All Saints church on Saturday 8th June at 2pm to talk about the Beriff brasses in the Lady Chapel.
The Beriffs, an important Brightlingsea family in the 13th and 14th centuries, lived at Jacobe’s Hall in the High Street.
The family’s living descendant, Sallie Beriff, recently completed a beautiful icon of St Catherine of Alexandria for the Lady Chapel and led a wonderful icon workshop which was well-attended and thoroughly enjoyed. The icons are on show at the church.
This is the second talk by Martin, who has visited and recorded all the brasses in every CoE church in England. His knowledge is encyclopaedic, interesting and engaging so an opportunity not to be missed!
