If you’ve ever wondered what the view from the top of All Saints’ Church looks like – and trust us, it’s stunning – then why not take a tower tour?
The All Saints Activities team has just released a new set of dates for the guided tours, which will allow visitors to climb the 97ft-high tower – the highest point in Brightlingsea.
The fees for the tours – £7 per adult and £4.50 for children over 8years old – will go towards the restoration work being carried out on the church bells. The restoration work involves installing steel beams to support the bells, which will be removed and restored by specialists
Once the work is completed, the bells – tincluding one cast in 1500, and the set of tubular bells – will be adapted to ring electronically so that a peal can be rung for weddings and other special occasions.
Recent taxation changes mean that VAT is now being charged on all the restoration work, which means that a lot of extra fundraising has to take place.
The tours take place at 2pm on the following dates:
April 25; May 2; May 3; May 9; May 16; May 17; June 7; June 13; June 14; June 27; July 18.
Tours must be booked in advance via email at [email protected] or calling the church office on 01206 302738.
• The tower was restored in 2023. Brightlingsea Info editor David Bridle climbed to the top to see the work in progress – as seen in the video below.
