
If you’ve ever wanted to know more about the bird life around Brightlingsea, there’s a free guided walk being organised along the banks of the River Colne by Bird Aware Essex Coast.
The organisation’s rangers will guide walkers from Bateman’s Tower to Moverons Farm, pointing out the bird species and habitats, as well as other wildlife, along the way.
Bird Aware Essex Coast is an initiative to raise awareness of the birds that feed and breed on the Essex coast, so that people can enjoy the coast and its wildlife without disturbing the birds. The county’s 350-mile coastline, with its mudflats and marshes, is internationally importand for wildlife, including thousands of waders and wildfowl.
The Brightlingsea walk starts from Bateman’s Tower at 10am on Saturday, March 15. It’s suitable for all ages and well -ehaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times. For more information, click here.
• Landowners are being urged tby Essex Highways o ensure their roadside hedges, trees and ditches are well maintained and cleared ahead of the spring bird-nesting season. During this period it is illegal to harm, disturb, or destroy nests under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
