The waters off Brightlingsea will be the place to see fast racing dinghies and tradtional smacks and barges as two major events come to town.
From Thursday, September 7, Brightllingsea Sailing Club will be hosting the national championships for the singlehanded RS700 and the two-person RS800 skiff dinghies.
Both classes are sailed by members of the club, but the fleets will be boosted by sailors from around the UK and overseas, including two RS700s from the Czech Republic.
The fleet of around 50 boats will be sailing out in the Colne Estuary, taking part in up to three races per day over the four-day event.
And on Saturday, September 9, the annual Colne Smack and Sailing Barge Match takes place, with the first start off Bateman’s Tower at 11am, followed by the smacks at 11.30am and the Mersea Fishing Open Boats at noon.
