Brightlingsea sailor Eddie Bridle has laid claim to being one of the fastest sailors in the country after taking top spot at the International Moth national championships.
Eddie, 26, a member of Brightlingsea Sailing Club, took the nine-race championship held in Falmouth with an impressive set of results – four firsts, three seconds and a third – and beat the second placed helmsman by six points.
Eddie’s win comes after other strong results in the class. He’s currently the French national Moth champion, was fourth in the recent foiling week event on Lake Garda in Italy, and was second in the 2021 national championships. As crew, sailing with his father Graham, he won the Cherub class national championships twice, in 2011 and 2012, and in 2017 took the helm with Brightlingsea sailor Sam Curtis to win the nationals. He’s also put in a strong performances in the singlehanded, non-foiling, Musto Skiff.
The singlehanded International Moth is a hi-tech carbon-fibre dinghy that ‘flies’ on hydrofoils and is capable of reaching speeds of up to 30 knots.
