Brightlingsea’s Bramble Brigade has been hard at work around the town, clearing overgrown paths and public spaces.
The latest area to benefit is Promenade Way, where a long stretch of weed-obstructed pavement was cleared by Tracey Hayes-Burt and Tracie Warwick, pictured above. Before and after shots of the pavement can be seen below.
Other areas that have been cleared by local residents include an overgrown area at the junction of Manor House Way and Tudor Close, the footpath between Robinson Road and Stoney Land, and path leading to Middleton Mews.
The Brigade should soon have the backing of Brightlingsea Town Council (BTC) and if anyone would like to get involved, or knows of a public area that is in need of clearance, they can contact town councillor Mat Court – [email protected].
Keeping paths and other areas clear should be the responsibility of Essex County Council, according to BTC, but at its last meeting the town’s county councillor, Alan Goggin. defended the county’s position and pointed out that many other local councils in the district either carry out clearance work or manage a volunteer force. The discussion can be found on the recording of the meeting here.
