Repair and Reuse is one of ten projects across Essex that was awarded a micro-grant by Love Essex. Their initiative to reduce household waste county wide includes extending the life of clothing. Per person…the UK disposes more clothing with household waste than any other European country. Using clothes for longer is proven to reduce the impact of textiles waste.
Often, people want to be more sustainable but don’t know how to be. Sometimes, skill set or access to tools is an obstacle. These Repair and Reuse workshops are FREE! In April and May, you will be able to learn the art of Sashiko stitching. Traditionally, value was based on how often clothes were used not on trends or brands. Care invested in adding beautiful repairs added value to clothes. The longer lasting, the more stitching, the more stitching, more care …and value increasing each time.
You will be able to learn Sashiko and will be encouraged to repair wardrobe favourites that you dont want to part with! In June, the workshop focuses on Visible Mending – purposefully flaunting flaws not hiding them.
Places are almost fully booked so don’t wait!
