A special day to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day 1945 with games for younger visitors and music reminiscent of the time, including the Honey Ukes and later in the day (3.30pm) Katy Bingham .

At about 2.45pm a special visitor is expected in a very special car, equally reminiscent of the 1940s, a Bentley open top in dark blue – the passenger will, after ‘touring’ the town, give his ‘Victory’ speech! Not to be missed.

Inside the museum there is a special exhibition: Wartime Brightlingsea – looking at the time the town was a Naval Base and residents were dealing with rationing and bombs, raising money for the purchase of Spitfires and more, while many were doing their ‘bit’ on the Home Front.

An extra feature of the exhibition is a board of photos of Brightlingsea men and women who were on active service or in the Merchant Navy. If you have a photo of a loved one you would like included why not bring their photo along and add to the display. We will remember them.
