Part of the main route through Brightlingsea town centre looks set to be closed for up to a month while water main renewal takes place.

Affinity Water says a stretch of the High Street between the junctions of Back Waterside Lane and Lime Street will be closed to traffic 24/7 from January 5 to February 8. Work will be carried out between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Access to John Street will be via Richard Avenue and Edward Avenue and Affinity says that access to properties within the closed-off area will be maintained.  Work will also take place on Back Waterside Lane, but this will be managed using give-and-take traffic control, so no closure will be required.

The work means that a diversion will be in place covering the section of the High Street from the junction of Waterside Lane to roughly the junction of Lime Street. Access to John Street will still be maintained via a signed diversion route along the High Street.

“We’ll keep residents informed if any short-term restrictions are required,” Affinity told Brightlingsea Info. “There will be no impact on customers’ water supply during the works, and if any planned interruptions become necessary, we will notify those affected in advance. To minimise noise, we operate a non-idle policy so machinery is only running when actively in use.”

The company added: “We recognise that any roadworks can be disruptive, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. We’ll be working in specific locations over the permit period and doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum while we complete this essential upgrade.”

• The work will disrupt the bus route around the town. First Bus has been contacted for a comment, but none was available at the time of writing.
