Discussions are taking place about the possibility of a car park being sited on the sports field at Strangers Corner – which could alleviate inconsiderate parking in the area.
The talks – between Brightlingsea town councillors and the Colne School – are in early stages and were revealed during the last full council meeting. Parking is available at the Colne School when games are taking place, but many drivers prefer to park closer to the field .
Councillors were read a letter from one resident who said that many solutions had been tried, but none had prevented parking on grass verges, on footpaths and on the main road – impeding traffic. “The time has come to finally get to grrips with the problem,” wrote the resident.

At the meeting, Cllr Jean Howard, of the council’s environment committee, said: “There’s no easy answer to it. There’s an enormous sign there saying park in the school car park, but nobody will – they will park on the road because they want to be nearer the field.”
She added: “Councillor Morgan and I visited the school to see if a car park could be put on the field because they have the room up there and they were quite open to it.”
Finance would be an issue, but Cllr Howard suggested that the Football Association might be one source as football clubs are the biggest users of the field. Further meetings about the proposal are to take place shortly.
