The walkways surrounding Brightlingsea’s paddling pool and Blue Flag beach are to receive some much needed tlc in time for next summer.

Brightlingsea Town Council (BTC) says “new concrete bays” will be laid over the existing surfaces, covering “existing defects to give a new clean look to the walkways”.

The work, funded and carried out by Tendring District Council (TDC), will also see the installation of a new, slightly sloping, section of concrete abutting the sea wall with the intention of preventing sand build-up and the pooling of water.

Tides and weather permitting, the work is scheduled to begin in February 2026 and on in to March.

Councillor Mick Barry, TDC’s cabinet member for leisure and public realm, said: “This is a welcome upgrade for Brightlingsea’s seafront, improving the look of the area and the overall visitor experience – and will be a boost for the town’s Blue Flag beach. These improvements will help to promote the area and encourage visitors to stay longer.”
